Hurricane Rita Evacuation
When evacuated what was there to do . Well we took a day to relax as the hurricane moved closer to Houston. Tubeing on the Brazos river helped keep our minds of the hurricane and relax after the long journey especially for me having travelled from the UK, cleared the house, packed the car, and then travelled from Houston to Dallas.
..... The return to Houston on the Saturday morning we did wonder what we were travelling back into, and what we would find when we got home . The return only took 5 hours driving and we found only leaves off trees and bannana plants leaves ripped but everything else safe and the sun was out and the weather was calm . This was in stark contrast to what was found on the East side of the State and in Louisianna. A close shave for us as the category 5 Hurricane lessened to a 4, then 3 and moved off from its original path towards the East side of Texas sparing us its wrath......

Hurricane Rita - Evacuation from Houston. Having set off at 4.00am in the morning on the 12 hours journey. The weather calm and sunny
Thankfully we found back routes to Dallas and did not have to hit the freeways where there were solid 3 lane and 2 lane feeder road traffic jams of over 100 miles

Well I started this with all good intentions but finding time to actually post things is actually always a challenge.
Having visited India I returned to the UK a couple of times and then back to Texas.
The last trip back to the UK was cut short due to me flying back to Texas to evacuate the family from the potential Rath of Hurricane Rita.
The hurricane moved north at the last minute and never hit where we lived, but we had evacuated before that was known.
The usual 4 hour journey to Dallas took us 12 hours becasue we followed our neighbours down back roads but for many that drive took over 20 hours as over 2.5million people were evacuating. Given the jet lag I was suffering having only landed in Houston from London, on the Wednesday night after having already worked a full day, from not having slept for over 36 hours, my son drove the van family and dog and drinks of water and snacks in convoy to Granville. A little piece of heaven after the long drive and stressed of not knowing our house would be there when we got back.
