Chichen Itza Trip

A 2 hour 30 minute journey from the Port of Progresso, Mexico.

The Myans existed for around 3000 years and there are 1000’s of sites around Mexico Guetemala, Belieze and Honduras.
Chitchen Itza was very interesting, now one of the 7 Wonders of the Modern world.

At the Summer and Winter Equinox the sun forms Seven diamonds on the back of the snakes back, down the right side of the steps.

The ball court. Very competitive. The losing Captain had his head cut off. It was an honour.
In the modern world all we do is sack the losing Manager, with No honour....

91 steps 4 sides and the top level amounts to the 365 days of the year. 52 plaques on the side of the pyramids representing the cycles of the Myan Calendar and 52 weeks in the year.

About the time this photo was being taken, unknown to Tim and I the Coach back to the Ship was leaving.

When we found the guide he said another couple had also missed the bus and I was to get in a cab and the bus would wait for us at the next town. He would try to find the other couple.
Well our cab driver could not find the bus at the next town, so now we are stuck in the middle of Mexico.
So after some cross language discussion, he headed to his sisters who owned a shop.
I was hoping she could exchange my credit card for money to pay for the cab to Progresso. I had money on the ship.
Well the driver said he would take me for $80. That was the going rate. I said lets go. I had money on the ship but felt I had no time to get it to him.

Mexico is about 6 miles away on a dock that goes on forever.
The driver was exceeding the speed limit to extreme and about 1 hour 30 minutes into the journey we caught up with one of the two tour buses from the Cruise.
The whole event was managed with good humour but my mouth was pretty dry, concerned about making it to the Ship verus staying in Mexico and flying to Houston.
Our driver spoke no English we were attempting Spanish, with Tim's help. (if only he had concentrated in Spanish lessons). When he saw the coach, Tim said to follow the bus in what he thought was good Spanish. However, later Tim recalled that he had been telling the man to follow the blouse.
I started to believe we might actually get to the ship in time. We over took the bus but got caught in city traffic and the bus ended up in front of us up the long very long pier to the ship.
We made it to the ships dock in just over two hours. The longest dock in the Americas we got there at 5.35pm. 5 minutes late for the official boarding.
We were greeted by security and the tour operator who was worried about us and hoping we woudl make it.
Now I had to worry about paying him the cab driver. We sorted it all out.

On the Ship a nice cup of tea in hand..The best cup of tea all week.

It was good to be Ship side and not dock side at this moment. 6.00pm

On our way

Tea finished and now down to some more serious stuff

Some celebratory Sushi. Phew that tasted great.

....and then a stiff drink in the bar.......
