Texas Independence Day Celebration — The 170th anniversary of the signing of the Texas Declaration of Independence.

Today Hazel Timothy and I took Day trip to Washington on the Brazos . Jonathan was working.

I was hoping for a sunny Texas day but it turned out to be a Grey day. It rained some of the time also, that gave an opportunity to go into the Museum and see some of the displays.

The Declaration of Texas Independance and several other historic documents were on display.

The Declaration was signed in a small wooden cabin at washington on the Brazos, as seen at the back of this photograph.

The state Park is a beutiful setting and today there was a number of people dressed up in period clothes of the day.

Additionally some re-inactments and opportunities to see how the old rifles were fired. During a chaotic attempt to fire rifles in sequence and as they were trying to get organized to fire their guns in an orderly fashion, one of the old timers in the reinactment army said " Are you sure we won this war" . They did look a motly crew.

There was the opportunity to watch and partake in some of the old techniques used in days past.

Timothy followed the process of taking the corn off the husk and through to the making Corn tortillas which were then being cooked in an open brick fire inside the reconstructed Prarie House.

There was music and speaches by state Representatives and Sam Houston IV.

After all the events, and the rain had passed we finally went for a walk around Washington on the Brazos State Park.
Here are some of the photos I took
during the walk.
