Unexpected Storms hit Houston

Well the Tennis was Cancelled after several hours of rain Saturday but it did not ruin the weekend.

We got enough blue sky and sun Saturday afternoon and Sunday am and early afternoon to go swimming and get a little sun burnt.
We also spent some of Saturday afternoon watching the World Cup Football at the bar by the pool, thunder and lightening came in and pouring rain all around for several hours. We were the only people left sitting there, so the 8 or so people behind the bar gave us great service. The Storms stayed away in the evening so we stayed and we watched a film under the stars by the pool.
We stayed at the Woodlands Country Club through Sunday evening giving us time to enjoy the pool some more as well as Caribbean music and more time to relax in the sun.

Sunday evening and more clouds built up as the temperatures got more and more humid.

Over night several inches of rain fell through the morning.
Jonathan left early to drive the Jeep to summer school he ended driving through some high water on the way.
Thankfully the engine did not stall but he learnt a nearly very expensive mistake about driving through high water on the road, as the water was aparently up to the top of the tyres and the engine was about to cut out, when the car in front of him stopped.

He sounded his horn and the car moved on allowing Jon to continue to drive through the water and keep the engine running.

One part of Houston over 10 inches or rain fell in 75 minutes.
Many houses were flooded with water in the streets several feet hight.
We are expecting more rain this evening.

We only received around 1-2 inches in our part of town, the ground is saturated and water just lays on the grass unable to sink or run away.

The rain was enough to raise the creek and lake levels several feet.

These levels are only slightly below where they reached 5 years ago during Tropical Storm Alison which lasted 4 days. This was only several hours of continual rain.

I have to say that with the new houses the college and new Schools and roads and shopping malls that have been built to our North and West I'm wondering what effect all that new concrete will have on the drainage of water run off from these intense storms or from our our next Tropical Depression or Tropical Storm.

Beach Volleyball anyone ? Its high tide.
