USTA College Station Weekend Tennis Competition ZAT's
Tim played in the Boys 12's held around various locations at College Station , the home of the Aggie (ATM College).
This is the 3rd year that Tim has played here. Each time doing well even making the semi final one year.
This year he was beaten in the first game and went through to the consolation round which involved 4 further matches.
The last two Matches being held at the A&M George P Mitchell Tennis Center. Opened in 1998 at a cost of $4.2million and its largest crowd recorded at 2339 people in 2002, and voted the USTA top facility in 1999.
The College Campus covers some 5200 acres (21sq km's with over 200 buildings).
It was the 1st Public college in Texas and was established in 1871.
It is ranked 60 th in the US and 21st in relation to other public Universities.
College station has a population iteself of around 153,000 and is located about 95 miles north west of Houston.
We again decided to stay there the weekend to make it easier on getting to the morning matches and a local hotel providing a place to relax and cool off between matches. The weekend temperatures reached 97degrees plus.
We stayed at the Hilton. They had a number of themed model trains around the city to commemorate something going on at the George Bush Senior's Library. We did not get to see that as Tim was playing matches all weekend.
2 years ago Tim was knocked out on the Saturday and thus we had time to visit the Presidential library and also see George Bush Senior jump out of a plane in freefall to a safe landing yards away from us, to congratulations from dignitaries such as Russias ex President Gorbachov and the UK's ex Prime Minister John Major and others.
This year we had little time to do anything apart from tennis.
Tim played well and won the consolation Championship which was well deserved after some intense games.
