Carnival the Party Ship....days at Sea (Friday and Sunday)

Sea Days were Friday and Sunday: I will blog seperately the Saturday as it was our day on land and Jonathans 18th birthday. It deserves a blog entry on its own.

So what does one do on a sea day ?
Helen and I did an hour of Yoga at 9.00am followed directly by an hour of Palates on Friday, followed by a blow out breakfast in the buffet and then time in the sun, reading, sleeping etc.

Sunday we did Yoga and dropped the Palates idea that day.
Yoga at the best of times can be a little challenging for a novice such as myself.

Did you know that the earth is spinning at around 1040 miles an hour or approx 0.5 km per second, whilst revolving at around the sun at approx 18.5 miles a second.

With that said it amazes me, I can stand on two legs with my eyes open, let alone with my eyes closedon a rolling sea. I think I did pretty well.

You try balancing on your left leg whilst leaning forward at a 45 degree angle to your left leg, with your other leg pointing straight, directly behind you and your arms out to your sides as if your flying, and all with your eyes closed, on a ship that is moving from side to side and up and down all at the same time.
Well of course I'm going to lean on 'anyone' to my left, and thank you Helen for pointing that out to the other 15 or so people in the room........How else can I stop myself from falling flat on my face or ass or both at the same time....... That's why we stood at the back of the class......

Anyway it was a fun time and I'm convinced of the benefits of yoga.
Now all I need to do it make time for it in my daily life now back on dry land.

As for the others, Tim regularly joined his friends and wandered around the ship doing scavinger hunts etc,
Jonathan and Hazel did much the same with the added exception that Hazel headed down to the Casino to win her fortune. My belief is she won and kept it quiet, as this weekend she's gone to Florida to a Club Med weekend.

Anyway the view off the ship, on a sea day, in the Gulf is pretty much the same, wherever you are, accentuated only by the time of day and cloud if any.

Whether you look from the Bow (the Pointy bit at the front),

the Starboard side (right), or the Port side (left)

or from the Stern (flat bit at the back)

..............pretty much what you see is Sea, Sea, Sea, Sea.

When finished looking at the sea, there is always plenty of other things to do. Swimming, Spa,bar Gym, buffet, Shopping, bar, Hot tub, Films, buffet, Theater, Casino, Buffet, bar, Library, Game room, bar, buffet, etc etc etc.

The relax and do nothing option is always also high on the agenda, but one thing, you have to watch with the kids around is that a camera is never far away,
Where do they get that from....?.
Who gave then a key to my room anyway ?

The latter part of Friday, and following Sea day on Sunday for that matter were spent , falling asleep in the sun and anywhere one found oneself. . .as well as wandering around between bar, sun deck and buffet....and of course the room.......

On the Friday whilst sitting in the sun on top deck I fell asleep, yes ..........again.......!
I had covered my self with sun cream but fell asleep on my back with my arms up behind my head. BIG Mistake ! An area than never gets sun got 2 hours of the stuff.
Yes Lobster and ouch effect beginning to kick in.
Safer to sleep inside....

If you add to the sleep experience, some drink (see.... sleeping with glass in hand) then you are close to what cruising is all about. .

Walking around ship was a fair part of the each day.

Friday was a hot sunny day

Sunday we had the excitement of a Storm for an hour. Lightening and Thunder all around and lots of rain. It was quite an experience.

Can you spot Hazel? reading on the balcony.

There you are.....

Helen also endured the torture of someone placing hot stones all over her body whilst they were tickling her feet and hands for an hour and a half on the Sunday. (some kind of spa treatment).

We did not use the elevators on the ship yet made many many trips up and down many flights of stairs and endured the searing sun as we walked around, from one end of the ship to the other.

As the sun began to set it was time to get ready as Friday was formal night.

No this is part of the preparation process not the evening atire.......

Then there was the dilema...........

.............. should we take the Rolls or walk to supper......

.....or dare use the elevators.......

Nice contrasts of colours........ Thanks Carnival the colours are still burnt into my retina.....

We started the evening at the Captains cocktail party. Jon and I found the swinging settee it spun around. Who was the biggets kid playing with that I wonder?
After a cocktail or two it was good fun whilst others just looked on........

....I believe it is caught on video as are many other embarassing moments.

Coping with being a 'chick magnet' even if it is his aunt....

He Loves it really.......

Photos and Supper followed by a show in the theater and a bit of a 'shifty' at the midnight buffet displays

before hitting the bed for a well earned sleep...,
yes another one...

  • Yes all very tempting. It gets to a point in the evening, or early morning when another buffet even if covered in chocolate goodies, just becomes a little too much to take...To have to look and then wait before consuming at 1.00am in the morning was just too much for us all. We made up for it the next day though....
