Brazos Bend State Park Texas:
Saturday I took Timothy for some riding and photo opportunities, South East of Houston.
Once you have extrecated yourself from freeways, ever sprawling house developments, shopping Malls Strip Malls, ongoing building of new hoses freeways and shopping Malls you eventually get into the some real countryside.
Brazos Bend State park is spread over 5000 acres of which over 3 miles fronts the Brazos river. There are over 27 miles of hiking trails, over 7 easily available for biking.
Apart from Open skies, there is much wildlife , trees and fauna. Birds are plentiful (apparently over 270 varieties) , but Brazos is most famous for the American Alligator. Over 300 of them are greater than 6 ft in length.

One of the best ways to get around is on bike as you can cover more of the area and re visit areas with ease as there is always something different going on somewhere.

As the water levels were so high many of the Alligators were either actually on the pathways or nestled up against the banks their heads resting on the pathways. Thankfully they were all sluggish but as evening drew on they seemed more active beginning their search for food.

To assume the large object at the side of the pathway was a log was a danerous assumption.

Many small Alligators around. You just had to walk around them.

Larger Alligators lay with their heads resting out of the water, catching the suns rays , or maybe looking for an oppotunity to take a bite out of a passer by.

When the eyes opened and the jaws opened, it was probably time to move on.

Everything living creature was looking for food at some point.

This Alligator was over 7 ft at best guess and was moving towards people watching him, then he would turn around and stalk something a little smaller. No sound no ripples in the water.

Water wading birds are always cautious one eye on the Alligators moving slowly through the water not even making a ripple.

Lurking in the weed waiting for un-suspecting prey.

The water level at most of the lakes, including the 40 acre lake was high.

As the evening draws close 1000's of birds flocked to the area, arriving to roost in the trees around the 7 lakes.
